Pause of Greek School Portland
for 2024-25

Dear Greek School students, families and friends,

We regret to inform you that Greek School Portland will be paused this year due to unforeseen circumstances related to teacher staffing. We understand the importance of Greek education for our students, and this decision was made with a heavy heart.

The team that founded Greek School Portland four years ago put all efforts to build a solid educational program with academic achievements, and a hospitable school community based on relationships, meetings, events and celebrations. Our students increased from twenty seven people in 2020 to one hundred in 2024, and the teaching hours increased from three on Saturday morning to twenty six throughout the week. This growth would not be possible without the expertise, professionalism, commitment, time and love of each one of our teachers and volunteers of the Greek School.

We thank our outstanding teachers who gave the best of themselves to their students: Sofia Iosifidi, Irini Karanika, Maria Anagnostidou.

We thank our exceptional assistants, Sophia Bliablias, Eva Bolls, Helena Zaimes-Toledano, Sandra Karafotias.

We thank our precious volunteers: Christos Karanikas, Thomas Spathas, Catherine Chachas, Ted Nieuwsma.

We thank the Holy Trinity Parish Council, the Endowment Fund and the whole Community for their support. Of course, the center and heart of our efforts is our students. We thank wholeheartedly our dearest students and their families for their love, dedication and trust to the Greek School. We will miss working together and seeing their smiling faces every week!

We would like to thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work through these circumstances during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

Theodora Nakou
